Privacy Policy — “DCoding SmartApply” Chrome Extension

Last updated: 2026. This policy describes how the Distinction Coding “DCoding SmartApply” browser extension handles your information.

Who this is for

The extension is an internal tool for Distinction Coding students on the Pro and 1:1 / VIP plans. You sign in with your existing Distinction Coding student account.

What we collect and why

• Account sign-in. When you log in, your email and password are sent over HTTPS to the Distinction Coding API to authenticate you. We do not store your password; only a short-lived access token (JWT) is kept in the browser's local extension storage so you stay signed in.
• Single sign-on cookie. If you are already signed in to the Distinction Coding student portal in the same browser, the extension reads the authentication cookie named token from our own domain (distinctioncoding.com.au) so it can sign you in automatically. We do not read cookies from LinkedIn, Seek, or any other website, and this value is only sent to our own API.
• LinkedIn profile text (only when you choose to save it). On your own LinkedIn profile you may click “Save profile.” The visible text of that page is stored locally in the extension and sent to the Distinction Coding API when you request a match analysis. It is never captured automatically.
• Job description text. When you click “Analyse this job,” the text of the job posting you are viewing (on LinkedIn or Seek) is sent to the Distinction Coding API to compute your match and CV recommendation.
• Your CV metadata. The analysis uses the file names and tags of CVs you have already uploaded to your Distinction Coding account, to recommend which one to use.

How the data is used

The profile and job text are used solely to generate your match percentage, keyword feedback, and best-CV recommendation. To produce this, the text is processed by our AI provider on our behalf. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.

Storage and retention

Your access token and any saved profile text are stored locally in your browser and are removed when you log out or remove the extension. Coaching data associated with your account is retained under Distinction Coding's normal account terms.

Data sharing

Data is sent only to the Distinction Coding API and the provider used to perform the analysis. It is not shared with any other third party. The extension does not send data to LinkedIn or Seek.

Your choices

You can log out at any time from the extension, which clears your token. You can uninstall the extension to remove all locally stored data. To request deletion of account data, contact us below.
